Origin and history
The Saint-Aldegonde Fountain of Saint-Omer is a listed historical monument located in the department of Pas-de-Calais, in the Hauts-de-France region. Built during the 3rd quarter of the 18th century, it is precisely on Victor-Hugo Square, in the heart of the city. Its architecture reflects the styles and techniques of the time, and it was designed under the direction of Nezot, the masterpiece mentioned in the archives.
Ranked by ministerial decree on 26 October 1981, the fountain is now owned by the commune of Saint-Omer. Its exact location is referenced in the Mérimée base under the AT 120 cadastre, and its GPS coordinates allow it to be located with satisfactory accuracy. Although the available sources do not specify its current use (visit, rental, etc.), its status as a historic monument makes it a protected and valued heritage element.
The fountain bears the name of Saint Aldegonde, a religious figure whose exact connection to the monument is not detailed in the sources consulted. The data come mainly from the Monumentum database and the internal archives, supplemented by geographical and administrative information such as the Insee code of the municipality (62765) and its attachment to the district of Arras. The Creative Commons license associated with a photograph by Jean-Pol Grandmont attests to his cultural and tourist interest.
