Origin and history
The mansion of Jorigny, located in Vivonne in the department of Vienna (New Aquitaine), is a building built between the late 16th and 17th centuries. This monument illustrates the residential architecture of this period, with characteristic elements such as a stone staircase with balusters and painted woodwork. Its inscription in the Historical Monuments in 1973 protects its facades, roofs, as well as remarkable interior elements, including a fireplace and an alcove.
At that time, manor houses often served as residences for wealthy families or local nobility, playing a central role in the social and economic organization of the countryside. In Poitou-Charentes, a region at the time marked by agriculture and commerce, these houses reflected the status of their owners while sometimes sheltering local administrative or judicial activities. The mansion of Jorigny, by its conservation, bears witness to this architectural and cultural heritage.
