Origin and history

The Péconet castle, located in Quinsac en Gironde, is a rare example of a preserved residence of the first half of the seventeenth century in the Bordelais. Its architectural decoration, marked by manerist inspiration, is based on motifs drawn from the collections of the ornemanists of the time. This historic monument replaces an earlier building dated from the last quarter of the sixteenth century, as evidenced by an engraved 1577 year stone inside the building.

The current construction dates back to the end of the second quarter of the seventeenth century, as indicated by the date of 1642 engraved on the door of the old chapel. This mannerist style, characteristic of the ensemble, confirms this period. The castle is distinguished by its facades and roofs, as well as by the entrance of its tank, protected since a decree of inscription in 2005.

Located at the approximate address 9000 Peconnet-Nord in Quinsac, the castle enjoys a geolocalised location which is considered very satisfactory (note 8/10). It is part of the architectural heritage of the Gironde, the historical region of Aquitaine, which is now part of New Aquitaine. No information is available on its current accessibility (visits, rentals, accommodation).
