Origin and history

The Château de Lasalle is a manor house built at the end of the 15th century or at the beginning of the 16th century, located in the municipality of Vic-sur-Cère, in the department of Cantal (region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes). This rectangular building is distinguished by its ground floor arched in broken cradle and its floors with exposed beams, some of which preserve geometric and vegetal painted decorations. A painted hood chimney, dated from the same periods, bears witness to the care taken in its interior.

Between 1593 and 1595, the manor house underwent major changes, as evidenced by the dates engraved on jobs in the barn-stub. These changes marked a major phase of transformation, although the castle lost one or more towers afterwards, including a stair tower that disappeared before 1793. By that date, the monument was already in poor condition, with a ruined tower reported in the archives.

Agricultural outbuildings, including a farm house, barn- barn and barn, date back to the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. These additions reflect the evolution of the use of the estate, from a strong medieval house to a farm. The castle, which was listed as a historical monument in 1990, protects its interior painted decorations and cradle vaults, rare elements of its architectural heritage.

The roof cover, in micaschiste or slate depending on the buildings, and the presence of hollow tiles for the pig house illustrate the local materials used. The site, although partially altered, preserves significant traces of its history, from its construction at the hinge of the 15th and 16th centuries to its subsequent adaptations. Its present state and its precise location (18 Rue du Pas de la Mougude) make it a representative testimony of the civil architecture of the Haute-Auvergne.

Today, Lasalle Castle remains a remarkable example of a transformed strong house, where residential and agricultural functions combine. Its inscription in the title of historical monuments underlines the importance of preserving this heritage, both for its architecture and for its interior decorations, rare in the region.
