Origin and history

The Kergouldec Cross, also known as the Kergouledec Cross, is located near the so-called Kergouledec site in Larmor-Plage, Morbihan. It is located at the intersection of Rue de Plœmeur and Rue de Kergouldec. This monument, dated 1558, is a cross with pawed arms, without a barrel, and planted in a kind of stone sphere adorned with a twist. It is a typical example of Breton Christian Renaissance architecture.

The Kergoulec cross was listed as historical monuments on 14 December 1928. This protection recognizes its heritage and historical value. The monument belongs to the municipality of Larmor-Plage, located in the agglomeration of Lorient, and bears witness to the importance of monumental crosses in the Breton landscape, often linked to religious or commemorative functions.

From an architectural point of view, this cross is distinguished by its simplicity and style characteristic of the sixteenth century. The patté arms are a stylistic characteristic common in the Breton crosses of this period. Its location at a crossroads suggests that it could be used as a landmark or as a protection symbol for local travellers and residents. Today, it remains a key element of local heritage, accessible to the public.
