Origin and history

La croix de chemin du XVIIe siècle is located in the commune of Bconté, in the Côtes-d'Armor department, in Brittany. It is located precisely on the road to the station, a typical location for this type of monument intended to mark roads or village entrances. Its style and location reflect the religious and artistic practices of the time, where the crosses served both as spiritual landmarks and as gathering points for the faithful.

The cross is remarkable by its decoration: it depicts a person in prayer under Christ's feet, a common iconography in modern Christian art. This artistic detail suggests a vocation both devotional and pedagogical, aimed at inspiring the piety of passers-by. The cross was officially recognized for its heritage value by its inscription as historic monuments on December 7, 1925, an act that bears witness to its cultural and historical importance.

From an administrative point of view, the cross belongs to the municipality of Bcon regard and is referenced in the Merimée base of the Ministry of Culture under the number PA00089019. Its precise location, although subject to approximations according to the sources, remains associated with the route de la Gare, an axis probably used at the time of its construction. This monument thus illustrates the religious heritage of Breton, marked by a strong presence of crosses and calvaries in the rural landscape.
