Cross of 18s: inscription by decree of 19 March 1926

Origin and history

The 18th century cross, located in Jugon-les-Lacs - Common new in Brittany, is an emblematic monument of the region. Dating from the 18th century, it was classified as a Historic Monument by order of 19 March 1926. This type of cross, typical of Breton heritage, was often used as a religious or commemorative landmark in villages.

The location of this cross is specified in the Mérimée base as being on Rue Saint-Étienne in the Côtes-d'Armor department (22). Although its GPS location is approximate, it remains a central element of the urban landscape of Jugon-les-Lacs. These crosses, often erected at crossroads or near churches, played an important social and spiritual role in the rural communities of the time.

The cross is now owned by the municipality and is part of the protected elements of the local heritage. Its registration in 1926 bears witness to its historical and cultural importance. Available data comes mainly from Monumentum and internal archives, confirming its status as a monument to be preserved.
