Origin and history

Château de la Bien-Boire is a building located in Souzay-Champigny, in the department of Maine-et-Loire, in the Pays de la Loire region. Built between the 17th and 18th centuries, it embodies the residential architecture of this period, marked by classical and local influences. The castle has been listed as historic monuments since 1991, recognizing its heritage and architectural value.

In modern times, castles in this region often served as residences for noble or bourgeois families, while playing an economic and social role in their environment. Souzay-Champigny, located in a famous wine-growing area, was then marked by agricultural activities, including the cultivation of the vine. These monuments also reflected the social hierarchies and lifestyles of the aristocracy or the Earth bourgeoisie, while participating in the organisation of rural territories.
