Origin and history
The Derôme mobile dam in Pont-Sainte-Maxence is a hydraulic structure designed at the beginning of the 20th century by the engineer Derôme, specialist in river control systems. This dam, of the type "filtrant with valves and frames", was specifically developed for the Oise River as part of an extensive modernisation of its pipeline, carried out between 1878 and 1910. It was part of a set of seven similar dams designed to maintain a constant water level in the bays, improving airworthiness and flood management.
The technical innovation of this dam lies in its mobile valve mechanism, allowing accurate flow control while filtering sediments. This process, patented by Derôme, marked a significant advance in the French hydraulic engineering of the early twentieth century. The dam was listed as a Historic Monument by order of 19 March 2014, recognizing its heritage and technical value.
Located in Pont-Sainte-Maxence in the Oise region of Hauts-de-France, the dam is integrated into a landscape marked by industrialisation and river developments of the period. Its approximate address, 613 Rue des Écluses, reflects its central role in the Oise management network. Although its GPS location is considered "passable" (note 5/10), it remains a tangible testimony to the technical progress of river control at the turn of the century.
