Abbatial Church of Jourcey (former): inscription by decree of 18 August 1950

Origin and history

The Abbatial Church of Jourcey, located in Chambeuf in the Loire department (region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes), is a 12th century religious building. This monument, classified among the Historical Monuments, bears witness to the Romanesque architecture characteristic of this period. Its listing in the inventory of Historic Monuments by decree of 18 August 1950 underlines its heritage importance and its preservation.

The location of the church, at 61 Chemin de l'Abbaye in Chambeuf, is attested by the Merimée and Monumentum bases. Although details of its specific history are limited in available sources, its status as an ancient abbey suggests a central role in local religious and community life in the Middle Ages. Abbatial churches of that time often served as places of prayer, assembly, and sometimes economic or cultural centres for the surrounding populations.

The accuracy of the location of this monument is assessed as satisfactory (level 8 out of 10), thanks to GPS coordinates and associated administrative data. A photograph under the Creative Commons license, attributed to Georgespitiot, makes it possible to visualize the building. No information is available on its current accessibility, whether visitation, room rental or accommodation.
