The vaulted hall of the former abbey (currently pharmacy of the hospital) and its woodwork: inscription by order of 6 June 1933

Origin and history

The Abbey of Saint-Amour, located in the eponymous commune of the Jura department, is a religious building whose preserved parts date back to the 17th and 18th centuries. This monument, now partly integrated with modern structures such as a hospital pharmacy, bears witness to the religious architecture of this period. Its most remarkable elements, such as the vaulted hall and its woodwork, were protected by an inscription under the Historic Monuments in 1933.

The location of the abbey, although documented (1 Allée du Souvenir Français), remains approximate according to the available sources, with a cartographic accuracy deemed a priori satisfactory (note 6/10). Owned by the municipality of Saint-Amour, there is no clear indication of its current accessibility (visits, rentals, accommodation). The data come mainly from the Merimée database and the Monumentum platform, without further details on its history or founders.

The 1933 classification specifically concerns the vaulted hall of the former Abbey and its woodwork, highlighting their heritage value. No information is available on other parts of the building, their conservation status, or any previous uses. The Insee code of the municipality (39475) and its attachment to the district of Lons-le-Saunier (region Burgundy-Franche-Comté) complete the administrative data associated with the monument.
