Origin and history
The farm of the hamlet Cherblanc, located in Violay in the region of the Monts de Tarare, is a representative example of the closed-yard houses of this area. It is distinguished by its spatial organization and architectural elements characteristic of the eighteenth century. The date of 1775, engraved on the chimney foyer plate, may indicate the year of its construction, while other inscriptions (1778 on the front door lintel and 1826 on the south-west gate) appear to be related to family events.
The house retains all the specific features of the 18th century buildings, with notable decorative details such as the gallery balustrade, cut chevrons or window arches. The fenil-stable building, on the other hand, has a wall apparatus suggesting further construction, probably in the 19th century. These elements reflect the architectural and family evolution of the site, typical of the rural farms of this period.
Classified Historic Monument by order of 27 July 1994, this farm includes in its protection the house and the operating buildings (cadastre C 376). Its state of conservation and its peculiarities make it a valuable testimony of the habitats and agricultural lifestyles of the Tarare Mountains, between tradition and successive adaptations.
The location of the farm, although documented (address: 5181 Cherblanc, Violay), is estimated with average accuracy (level 5/10). This site, still rooted in its rural environment, offers an overview of constructive techniques and domestic organization in the mountain environment in the 18th century.
