Origin and history
The Hotel and Factory of the Society of Ash was built in 1866 to house the activities of this company founded in 1859 by jewelers goldsmiths. The building is distinguished by its dualist architecture: a building on street made of cut stone, dedicated to the offices, and a large rectangular hall at the back, covered with a metal frame, which served as a workshop. This place illustrates the growing industrialisation of Parisian crafts in the 19th century, combining architectural elegance and industrial functionality.
The factory basement was equipped with large cast iron wheels and blast furnaces, which were essential tools for metal processing activities. These facilities reflect the technical needs of jewellery and goldsmiths, sectors that were booming in Paris during this period. The entire site, including its facilities, was registered with the Historical Monuments by order of 29 July 2014, thus recognizing its heritage and historical value.
Today, the Hotel and Factory of the Society of Ash remains a private property, located at 39 rue des Francs-Bourgeois in the 4th arrondissement of Paris. Although its access to the public is not specified, its architecture and history make it a rare testimony of the alliance between luxury crafts and industrial revolution in the Paris of the Second Empire. The accuracy of its location is estimated to be poor (note 5/10), based on available data.
