Origin and history

The building of the Embassy of Peru, located 50 avenue Kléber in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, is a mansion built in 1880 by architect Julien Bayard. This building, typical of bourgeois architecture of the 4th quarter of the 19th century, was redesigned in 1912 by Émile Hochereau, incorporating Art Nouveau elements and refined interior decorations. The facades and roofs, as well as several reception rooms on the first floor, were partially listed as historical monuments by order of 21 December 2004.

The building houses the diplomatic representation of Peru in France since 1958, when it was acquired by the Peruvian government. Originally, the legation of Peru was installed on Rue Beaujon (8th arrondissement) in the early 20th century, before moving Rue Chateaubriand in the 1920s. The mansion is distinguished by its woodwork and stained-glass windows of 1926, signed Champigneulle, as well as paintings on the ceiling dating back to 1882 by Horace de Callias.

The current embassy, headed by Ambassador Rolando Ruiz Rosas Cateriano since 2022, occupies an emblematic building of Parisian heritage. The Consulate General of Peru is located 25 rue de l'Arcade (8th arrondissement). This private hotel illustrates both the French-Peruvian diplomatic history and the architectural evolution of Paris between the 19th and 20th centuries.
