Origin and history
The Alambic d'Ognoas is a monument located in Arthez-d'Armagnac, New Aquitaine region. This 19th-century site reflects the historical importance of Armagnac production in this region. Although available sources are limited, its name and location suggest a strong link to distillation, a major activity of the local economy at that time.
In the 19th century, the Armagnac region was marked by a rural economy focused on viticulture and the production of brandy. The stills, the essential tools of this industry, played a key role in transforming local wines into spirits. These installations often reflected artisanal know-how and traditions passed on from generation to generation, while participating in the economic and social life of the surrounding municipalities.
