Origin and history
The former apartment of the architect Marcel Hennequet, located at 100 boulevard Pereire in the 17th arrondissement of Paris, was inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 16 April 2019. This place is distinguished by its preserved interior decorations, characteristic of the first half of the twentieth century, and is located on the 4th floor of Building C, on the left in the back of the courtyard. Boulevard Pereire, where the apartment is located, was set up between 1852 and 1854 in connection with the construction of the Auteuil railway line, initiated by the Pereire brothers. This project marked the beginning of the urbanization of the Monceau Plain under the Second Empire, transforming a rural area into a popular residential area.
The neighborhood underwent a major architectural evolution: villas and private hotels from 1860-1880 were gradually replaced by collective buildings in post-haussmannian or Art Deco style during the first half of the 20th century. Marcel Hennequet's apartment is part of this transition period, reflecting the influence of architects who helped shape the modern face of the 17th arrondissement. Boulevard Pereire, with its two tracks bordering the old railway trench, became a place of residence for many artists, intellectuals and personalities, reinforcing its status as an emblematic quarter of Parisian life.
The inscription of the apartment as a Historic Monument underlines its heritage importance, especially for its intact decorative elements. This ranking is part of a desire to preserve the testimonies of the architecture and lifestyle of Parisian elites at the beginning of the 20th century. The building, typical of the buildings of the period, also illustrates the adaptation of urban spaces to the residential needs and architectural innovations of the period. Although little precise information is available about Marcel Hennequet himself in the sources consulted, his apartment remains a remarkable example of the Parisian architectural heritage of the inter-war period.
