Chapel of the Visitation, formerly Jacobins (Box 0 536, 537): inscription by order of 23 April 1965
Origin and history
The former convent of the Montferrand Visitation, now integrated in Clermont-Ferrand, is a religious building built between the 15th and 16th centuries. This monument, classified among the Historical Monuments, illustrates the architecture and spiritual history of the region at the turn of the Renaissance. Although little documented in available sources, its partial inscription (the entrance door) by order of 9 November 1926 attests to its heritage value.
The convent, now owned by an association, is located at 19 Rue Sainte-Marie, in Puy-de-Dôme. Its location, marked by an approximate location (precision note: 5/10), reflects the conservation challenges of old buildings in urban areas. No information is available on its current accessibility (visits, accommodation or rental), but its existence recalls the role of convents in the social and religious life of medieval and modern Auvergne.
At the time of its construction, between the 15th and 16th centuries, the region was marked by a transition between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The convents, like that of the Visitation, served as places of prayer, education and assistance, while playing a central role in urban networks. Their architecture often blended monacal austerity and emerging artistic influences, as evidenced by the protected elements of this site.
