Origin and history
The ancient bishopric of Autun is a historical monument whose current buildings date mainly from the 15th century. This site, occupied without interruption for fourteen centuries by the episcopal institution, bears witness to the religious and administrative continuity of the city. Its architecture reflects the stylistic and functional changes associated with its long-term ecclesiastical use.
The location of the bishopric, Place du Terreau (or Cardinal Perraud Square according to the sources), makes it a central element of the Austrian heritage. The monument is now owned by a cult association, suggesting a vocation always linked to religious or community life. The protections it enjoys (Merimée reference PA00113097) underline its historical and architectural importance.
The available data indicate a geographical accuracy considered "a priori satisfactory" (note 6/10), with coordinates associated with the modern address of Cardinal Perraud Square. No additional information is provided on the possible transformations of the building after the 15th century, or on the characters that marked its history.
