Origin and history
The Glandevès hotel, also known as the Glandeves hotel, is a private hotel located at 5 rue Littera, in the historic centre of Aix-en-Provence. Built in 1618 for Gaspard de Glandevès, it illustrates the aristocratic architecture of Provence at the beginning of the seventeenth century. Its facade, remodeled in the 18th century, has a cochère door in basket cove decorated with carved staples, while its iron balcony dates back to the same period.
Inside, the staircase is distinguished by its gypsies typical of Provencal hotels, bearing the coats of arms of the families of Glandevès and Roussan, the latter having also occupied the place. The building was listed as a Historic Monument on July 12, 2023, recognizing its heritage value. Its architecture combines 17th century classical elements with later decorations, reflecting the stylistic evolutions of the era.
Historical sources mention bibliographical references, such as the works of André Bouyala-d Its recent listing among the Historic Monuments highlights its importance in the local heritage, alongside other emblematic buildings of the city.
