Origin and history
The former chamber of commerce of Saint Quentin was built between 1927 and 1929, on the site of the church of Saint Jacques, dated the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries. This building, inaugurated in 1929, illustrates the transition between a medieval place of worship and a modern economic institution. André Maire's paintings, painted on canvas, still adorn the building, testifying to the decorative art of the inter-war period.
The church of St. James, now extinct as an independent structure, left remains integrated into the Chamber of Commerce. These elements, protected by a decree of inscription in 2022, recall the religious history of Saint Quentin. The monument, owned by the commune, is located on Rue de la Selerie, in a district marked by post-First World War architecture.
The location of the site, noted as "passable" (level 5/10) in databases, reflects the precision challenges for transformed urban monuments. Available sources, such as Monumentum and Merimée data, highlight its dual heritage: economic with the Chamber of Commerce, and religious with the remains of the church. No information is provided on its current accessibility (visits, rentals).
