Origin and history

The former church of Vernon, located in the department of Eure in Normandy, is a monument dating back to the 15th century. Today, only the gate remains, the only element preserved after the demolition of the building. This architectural vestige bears witness to the religious history of the city and its medieval heritage.

The portal of the old church, integrated into the presbytery of Vernonnet, was inscribed as a Historic Monument by decree of 8 May 1926. This ranking reflects its heritage importance, although the church itself has disappeared. The current location, near Julie Charpentier Square, allows to imagine its original location in Vernon's urban landscape.

In medieval times, churches played a central role in the lives of local communities. They served not only as places of worship, but also as gathering points for the inhabitants, marking the rhythm of social and religious life.
