Origin and history

La Loge Michel, also known as a former workman's house, is a modest building built around 1870 in Bon Repos sur Blavet, Brittany. Built in slabs and plates of slate shale, it reflects local construction techniques related to the exploitation of slate, a major activity in Central Britain in the 19th century. This type of habitat, now rare, bears witness to the living conditions of the slate workers of the time.

Restored in 1993, this house was preserved as one of the last representatives of this workers' heritage. It is now furnished with antique furniture and serves as a framework for socio-educational and cultural activities. Its inscription as a Historic Monument in 2014, including the house and its adjoining plot, underscores its heritage importance for the municipality of Laniscat, on which administratively depends Bon Rest sur Blavet.

La Loge Michel offers a concrete overview of Breton industrial history, where slate played a central economic role. Its simple and functional architecture, adapted to local resources, illustrates the ingenuity of the workers and their modest way of life. Today, it is a communal property, and it participates in the transmission of this heritage to the public, while remaining anchored in its original territory.
