Origin and history

The old stables of Ferrières-en-Brie were an integral part of the Rothschild estate, an iconic architectural ensemble of the second half of the 19th century. This building, inspired by Anglo-Norman styles, is distinguished by its brick structure and its fake panels of wood, as well as by a central courtyard covered with an elegant glass roof. Today, the site belongs to the municipality and hosts both a municipal depot and a fire station, marking a functional conversion while preserving its historical heritage.

The fatherhood of the stables is attributed, without absolute certainty, to the architects Alfred-Philibert Aldrophe or Joseph-Antoine Froelicher, two figures associated with the prestigious achievements of the time. The estate, formerly privately owned by Rothschild, is now managed by the great chancery of the Universities of Paris. Classified as a Historical Monument since 1997, these stables bear witness to the architectural fascination of the Second Empire and the influence of private sponsors in the development of the French territories.

The location of the stables at 7 rue du Général-de-Gaulle in Ferrières-en-Brie (Seine-et-Marne) is documented in the Merimée base, although geographical accuracy is considered poor (note of 5/10). Their protection specifically concerns cadastre B 206, highlighting their heritage value despite limited public accessibility, without mention of opening up to tourism or related services such as guest rooms.
