Origin and history
The old refectories of Noisiel are a historical monument integrated with the working city of the Menier factories. Built during the 4th quarter of the 19th century, they illustrate architecture related to the flourishing chocolate industry of the time. Their location, in 28 Place Emile-Menier, reflects the urban organization designed for factory workers, with collective infrastructures such as these refectories.
This building, whose facades and roofs have been protected since 1986, is part of a broader set of heritage notices (PA00087170 to PA00087173, PA00087175). The workers' city, typical of industrial paternalism, aimed to improve the living conditions of employees while linking them to the enterprise. Today, the site remains a symbol of the social and economic heritage of the region.
The precise location of the monument, although documented (28 Place Émile-Menier and 23 Albert-Menier Street), is considered to be of poor accuracy (note 5/10). Owned by the municipality of Noisiel, the building raises questions about its current use, whether it be visits, room rental or other functions, not specified in available sources.
