Origin and history

The Lourmarin forge shop is a historic monument located in the village of Lourmarin, in the department of Vaucluse (84), in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Built during the second quarter of the seventeenth century, it bears witness to the local artisanal and industrial activity of that time. Its facades, roofs and workshop itself were included in the inventory of Historic Monuments by order of 25 April 1974, highlighting their heritage value.

In the 17th century, forging workshops played a central role in the provençal villages, providing tools, fittings and metallic objects essential for daily life and agriculture. These structures often reflected a social organization in which artisans and peasants worked closely. Lourmarin's workshop, by its conservation, offers a tangible example of this artisanal heritage, although the available sources do not specify its exact use or its possible original owners.
