Origin and history

The Aviatic Bar, located at 354bis rue de Vaugirard in the 15th arrondissement of Paris, is an iconic early 20th century café built around 1910. It is distinguished by its ceramic interior, made by the Belgian company Gilliot et Cie, based in Hemixem. This decor, installed by G. Martin, the company's Parisian representative, includes four panels representing flowery landscapes, as well as a horse-drawn counter, modern for the time.

The interior decoration of the Aviatic Bar was classified as Historic Monument by order of 23 May 1984, thus recognizing its heritage value. This café illustrates the influence of the decorative arts of the time, combining Belgian craftsmanship and Parisian aesthetics. Its architecture and layout reflect the artistic and social trends of the first quarter of the 20th century, a period marked by the rise of cafes as places of urban sociability.

The building housing the Aviatic Bar, typical of the early twentieth century, is part of the architectural landscape of the 15th arrondissement. Although its precise location is estimated as "a priori satisfactory", its exact address is clearly identified in the archives of the Merimée base. This place, now potentially open to the public, bears witness to the history of Parisian cafes and their role in the cultural life of the capital.
