Origin and history
The town hall of Saar Union occupies the former halls of the city, built in 1684 under the reign of Louis XIV, as attested by a wall cartridge. This project was financed by the king after his visit to Bouquenom, marking the strategic importance of the region. The building, located at 34 Grand-Rue, has a characteristic architecture with arcades in the middle of the ground floor and a helical staircase in stone and wood. A restoration was mentioned in 1773, highlighting its ongoing maintenance.
The monument has been listed in the Historic Monuments since 1934, especially for its built-in door in the fence wall of the garden. The back wing of the courtyard features sill windows and mouldings, typical of Alsatian civil architecture. Owned by the commune, it illustrates the evolution of public spaces, from medieval halls to a town hall symbolizing local power.
Sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum) confirm its central role in community life, from its initial commercial use to its current administrative function. The accuracy of its location is estimated to be poor (note 5/10), with an official address recorded in the Merimée database. No information is available on its current accessibility (visits, rentals).
