Origin and history

The so-called Turbine building, located in Auxerre in the department of Yonne, was erected during the 4th quarter of the 19th century. This historic monument is directly associated with the drinking water supply of the Hauts d'Auxerre, a district of the city. Its architecture reflects the technical and urban needs of the time, with particular attention to hydraulic infrastructure.

The building, as well as the underground rooms forming the reservoirs, were listed as a Historical Monument by order of 18 August 1992. These reservoirs, located under the main structure, demonstrate the technical advances of the period in water management. The project manager identified for this project is Jean Moreau, whose role was instrumental in the design and realization of this work.

Today, the Turbine building is owned by the municipality of Auxerre. Its location, at 6 Rue Théodore de Bèze, makes it a heritage element integrated with the urban fabric. Localization, although considered "a priori satisfactory" (note of 6/10), remains a point of interest for those passionate about industrial history and 19th century architecture.
