Feudal motte (Case A 179): inscription by order of 6 August 1982

Origin and history

The feudal motte de Beaufort-Blavincourt is a historic monument located in the municipality of the same name, in the department of Pas-de-Calais (62), in the Hauts-de-France region. This site, dated from the Middle Ages, is representative of the defensive structures of this period, often built to control a territory or protect a seigneury. Its listing in the inventory of Historic Monuments by decree of 6 August 1982 underlines its heritage and archaeological importance.

Feudal motes, such as Beaufort-Blavincourt, were generally erected between the 10th and 12th centuries. They served as the basis for wooden or stone fortifications, surrounded by ditches, and played a central role in the local feudal organization. These constructions reflected the social and military hierarchy of the time, where the lords exercised their power from these strategic points.

Although little specific details are available on this motte, its existence illustrates the medieval history of Nord-Pas-de-Calais, marked by conflicts, alliances and the development of seigneuries.
