Origin and history

The belfry of Courthézon is a clock tower integrated into the city's consular house, which served as a town hall until 1956. This monument, located in the Vaucluse, was offered to the community in the 15th century by Monsieur de Panisse, master d'hotel de Louis XII. The consular house, which became a municipal crèche in 1999, illustrates the evolution of the public use of this emblematic building.

The tower of the belfry was styled a campanile in 1653, an architectural addition that marks its history. Since 12 September 1952, this belfry has been part of the historic monuments, demonstrating the municipal heritage and the importance of public buildings in local life. Its official inscription underscores its historical and architectural value.

Today, the belfry remains a symbol of the history of Courthezon, reflecting the transformations of the city since the 15th century. Its initial role as a clock tower and a place of municipal power makes it a key monument to understand the social and political organization of the region throughout the centuries.
