Origin and history
The house Bermont is a medieval house located in Montjaux, in the Aveyron department in the Occitanie region. Dating from the 13th and 15th centuries, it is a typical example of the domestic architecture of the Rouergue. Its façade, marked by two distinct periods of construction, was listed as historical monuments in 1930.
The left part of the facade retains a central column-shaped gemini window, decorated with trilobes, characteristic of the 13th century. To the right, a bay was later modified, with the addition of a balcony, while the main door in warhead and a second door, probably opened in the sixteenth century, bear witness to architectural evolutions. These details reveal the changes the building has undergone over the centuries.
The building is mentioned in archaeological studies, notably those of Pierre Garrigou Grandchamp, who analyse medieval domestic architecture in Rouergue. Although little documented, Bermont House offers a material testimony of the lifestyles and construction techniques of the time. Its inscription in 1930 underscores its heritage importance in the architectural landscape of Aveyron.
