Origin and history

La Ferme Tricot is a typical farm in the hamlet of Grand Colombier in Vernoux, Ain department. Originally from 1515 according to the sources, it was partially destroyed by a fire before being rebuilt identically. Its architecture includes several buildings organized around a courtyard, with an iconic buckwheat fireplace, characteristic of the farms of the region. The chimney, classified in 1932, and the roof, protected in 1944, testify to its heritage importance.

The farm is still active today, combining farm and catering activity under the name Ferme Auberge du Colombier. It offers traditional Bressane cuisine, perpetuating local know-how. Close to Ferrand farm, it is part of a rural landscape marked by the agricultural history of the Bresse, between Ain and Saône.

According to the archives, the Tricot Farm illustrates the evolution of construction techniques and rural lifestyles between the 16th and 18th centuries. Its Saracen fireplace, a rare architectural element, is a vestige of medieval influences in the region. Although the sources mention an identical reconstruction after a fire, the exact date of this event remains unknown. The site is referenced in the Mérimée base and has a precise location in the Grand Colombier, less than 200 metres from Ferrand Farm.

The protection for historical monuments relates specifically to the chimney (classified in 1922) and the roof (classified in 1944). These measures reflect the desire to preserve a rural heritage representative of the Brazilian identity. Today, the farm combines historical preservation and economic dynamism, thanks to its agricultural and tourist activities, while remaining anchored in its territory.
