Origin and history
The farm of the Champ-Bressan, located in Romenay in the department of Saône-et-Loire (Burgogne-Franche-Comté), is an emblematic example of the agricultural architecture of Bressane. Built between the 18th and 19th centuries, it is distinguished by its atypical location in the heart of the village, unlike the scattered habitat dominant in Bresse. Its buildings, organized around a courtyard, include a wooden housing house, a barn, an oil factory keeping its original equipment, and outbuildings such as stables and stables.
Classified as a historic monument since May 16, 2006, the farm was already protected by previous orders (1925, 1930, 1937). It houses a buckwheat fireplace, rare in the area, with a square mitre with pyramid. After renovation, it has been transformed into a museum open to the public since 2010. The estate, once including fields and livestock, reflects the rural economic organization of the time, where agriculture and livestock structure community life.
The house, typical of the Bressane farms, has seven rooms centered around the hut (living room). The half-timbered brick and torchi, and the low-brick solin, illustrate local construction techniques. The oil factory, still equipped, bears witness to the artisanal activities related to oil production, which is essential in the rural economy of Bresse. The farm, owned by the commune, is today a place for visiting and preserving the agricultural heritage.
Its classification covers all buildings, the well, the courtyard floor and the fence walls, highlighting its heritage importance. The precise location at 3956 Route des Alpes and its Insee code (71373) confirm its anchoring in the territory of Romenay. The farm thus embodies both the agricultural history of the Bresse and contemporary efforts to enhance rural heritage.
