Origin and history
Terrenoire butcher shop, located at 18 rue des Fossés-Saint-Jacques in the 5th arrondissement of Paris, is a remarkable historical monument for its wrought iron front and painted sheet metal plates. Made between 1900 and 1920, it illustrates the art crafts of the time, combining commercial and aesthetic functionality Art Nouveau. This front, typical of the Parisian signs of the early twentieth century, was designed by decorator Renato Panzani, whose work is distinguished by his attention to detail and his innovative use of materials.
The front was classified as Historic Monument by order of 23 May 1984, thus recognizing its heritage value. This type of education, which is now rare, is a testament to the importance of local shops in Paris in the 1900-1920s, where crafts and urban design played a central role in everyday life. The location of the butcher shop, in a historical and intellectual district of Paris, reinforces its cultural and architectural interest.
