Origin and history
The wooden formwork shops located at 13 rue du Cherche-Midi in the 6th arrondissement of Paris are a rare example of commercial architecture from the 3rd quarter of the 19th century. Their preservation is part of an urban context in the midst of transformation during the Second Empire and the beginnings of the Third Republic, where wooden fronts, often replaced by more modern materials, become evidence of Parisian artisanal heritage. These shops were listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments by order of 23 May 1984, highlighting their exceptional heritage value.
The exact location of these shops, although documented (13 rue du Cherche-Midi), remains subject to poor cartographic accuracy (level 5/10 depending on the Merimée base). This impreciseness can be explained by the evolution of the Parisian building or by historical geolocation errors. The fronts, a protected element, illustrate the carpentry and commercial layout techniques of the time, reflecting the local craftsmanship and consumption habits of the Haussmann Paris.
Insee code 75106 confirms the anchoring of these shops in the commune of Paris, in the Île-de-France region. Their presence in a central district, marked by dense commercial and residential activity, reinforces their historical interest. Although available sources (Monumentum, Merimée base) do not specify their current use, their status as Historic Monument suggests heritage conservation, potentially compatible with contemporary commercial activity.
