18th century fountain: inscription by decree of 8 September 1928

Origin and history

The Albertville Fountain, listed among historical monuments, dates from the 18th century. Located in the Savoy department, it was registered by ministerial decree on 8 September 1928. This public monument, owned by the municipality, illustrates the importance of water points in the urban planning of Alpine cities at that time.

The 18th-century fountains in Savoy were often used as a place for gathering and distributing drinking water for the inhabitants. Their construction reflected the growing need for water infrastructure, linked to the demographic and economic expansion of cities. This type of monument, both utilitarian and decorative, also marked the affirmation of municipal power and its role in urban planning.
