Origin and history
The building at Place Richebé in Lille, built in the last quarter of the 19th century, was commissioned by Alexandre Cannone, a paper industrialist. This monument illustrates the opulence of the Lille bourgeoisie of the time, with space of appartage richly decorated by the local painter David between 1886 and 1892. The landmarks include a marble entrance hall decorated with mosaics and door paintings, as well as a Moorish rotunda lounge, reflecting the architectural and artistic eclecticism of the late century.
The interior decor, protected since 2005, includes box ceilings, marquetry floors, and a room with a painted ceiling of a religious scene. These elements, typical of bourgeois residences, bear witness to a refined lifestyle and an active artistic patronage in the industrial North. The building, located at the corner of Boulevard de la Liberté and Place Richebé, remains an emblematic example of the Lille urban heritage.
Official protections specifically concern the rooms on the first floor, including the lobby, boudoir, art salon, and Moorish lounge. These spaces, with their panels, chimneys, mirrors and columns, were listed in the Historical Monuments Inventory in 2005, highlighting their heritage value and outstanding conservation status. The exact address, 15 Place Richebé, confirms its anchoring in the historic center of Lille.
