Origin and history
The American Café in Moulins, located in the Allier department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, is an emblematic example of the Art Nouveau millenian decor. Built in the early twentieth century, it retains its 1905 façade, adorned with carved wood, engraved glass and a Belle Époque handwriting. The facade, divided into five equal parts, is framed with ground oak panels and frosted glass, with floral patterns in relief characteristic of the 1900 style. This café illustrates the influence of Modern style in local architecture, combining elegance and functionality.
The original furniture, including the bar, tables and chairs, was preserved, reinforcing the authenticity of this historic place. The façade, the only protected part, was listed as historical monuments by order of 22 February 1978. This café shows the importance of sociability places in the early 20th century, where local art and crafts were expressed in public spaces such as cafes, reflecting cultural and architectural developments of the time.
The architecture of the American Café is attributed to Ribiolio, the masterpiece whose work marked the millenian heritage. Located in the 23 course Anatole-France, this monument attracts for its neat decor and its Belle Époque atmosphere, offering an overview of bourgeois life and urban leisure of the period. Its inscription as a historic monument underscores its heritage value, both for its style and its role in local history.
