Calvaire located at the intersection of Grande Rue and Rue Chaffeaux : classification by order of 27 July 1979

Origin and history

Le Calvaire de la Grande-Rue is a religious monument located in the commune of Confracourt, Haute-Saône, Burgundy-Franche-Comté region. Dating from the seventeenth century, it embodies the architecture and Christian devotion of this period, typical of the rural villages of the time. Its location at the intersection of two main streets suggests a central role in local life, serving both as a spiritual landmark and as a gathering point for the inhabitants.

Ranked as historical monuments by order of 27 July 1979, this calvary illustrates the heritage importance accorded to religious buildings in this region. In modern times, calvaries were often erected to mark places of prayer or to commemorate local events. Confracourt, owned by the commune, thus reflects the cultural and religious heritage of the Haute-Saône, while at the same time bearing witness to 17th century artistic and artisanal practices.
