Origin and history
The chapel of the cemetery of Néronde, located in the Loire department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, dates from the 1st quarter of the 14th century. This religious monument, located at La Chapelle, is representative of the medieval funeral architecture of the region. Its inscription as Monument Historique by decree of 11 September 2015 includes not only the entire chapel, but also an adjacent calvary located in the southern part of the cemetery, although it is excluded from the protected cadastral perimeter (parcelles AD n°36 and AD n°37).
The chapel, owned by the commune of Nerode (code Insee 42154), illustrates the central role of religious buildings in the social and spiritual organization of villages in the Middle Ages. At that time, cemetery chapels often served as places of worship for funeral services and commemorations, strengthening community cohesion around religious practices. Their construction also reflected local resources and know-how, although specific details about the artisans or sponsors of this monument are not mentioned in the available sources.
The location data, considered "very satisfactory" (note 8/10), place the chapel at approximately 5273 La Chapelle, confirmed by GPS coordinates.
