Facades and roofs (Case B 167): inscription by order of 13 October 1971
Origin and history
The chapel of the cemetery of Pouilly-sur-Loire is a religious building built during the first half of the seventeenth century. Located in the Nièvre department, in Burgundy-Franche-Comté, it is representative of the funerary architecture of this period. Its facades and roofs were included in the inventory of Historic Monuments by decree of 13 October 1971, thus highlighting its heritage value.
The monument belongs to the commune of Pouilly-sur-Loire, as indicated by the base Mérimée. Although its exact location is approximate (precision of location estimated at 6/10), it is located near the cemetery at 1198 Les Chapelles. No information is available on its current use (visits, rentals, etc.), but its communal ownership status suggests public administration.
The region of Pouilly-sur-Loire, known for its vineyards and historical heritage, was in the 17th century a territory marked by the influence of the Church and local lords. Cemetery chapels, like this one, played a central role in funeral rites and collective memory. Their construction often reflected the prosperity or donations of wealthy families in the community.
Available data from Monumentum and the Merimée archives do not mention any sponsor or architect for this monument. Only the protected elements (facades and roofs) and the date of inscription (1971) are documented, limiting knowledge of its detailed history or possible subsequent transformations.
