Front and interior decoration: inscription by order of 23 May 1984
Origin and history
The charcuterie located at 6 rue des Petits-Carreaux in Paris 2e Arrondissement is a building built in the late 19th century. This building is distinguished by its marble front, made between 1930 and 1940, which reflects the Art Deco aesthetic of this period. The interior of the store is just as remarkable, with two walls covered with ceramics decorated with glycine motifs, while the background wall is decorated with an acid-engraved mirror, typical technique of the time.
The furniture, composed of shelves and a marble countertop, as well as the ceiling decorated with canvases depicting stylized flowers and animals, testify to a neat craftsmanship. These elements, combined with the front, led to a partial inscription of the site under the title of Historical Monuments by order of 23 May 1984, thus protecting the front and interior decoration. The precision of this protection underlines the heritage importance of this trade, representative of the Parisian signs of the early twentieth century.
Although the exact address is confirmed (6 rue des Petits-Carreaux), the available GPS location remains approximate, with an accuracy assessed as fair (note of 5/10). This discrepancy between the official address and geographical coordinates can be explained by urban developments in the neighbourhood or by geolocation errors. The site, still visible, offers an overview of the Parisian business architecture of the 1930s, a period marked by the rise of noble materials such as marble and innovative decorative techniques.
