Origin and history

The house at 5 Rue des Clercs in Romans-sur-Isère is a historical monument built in the 17th century. This building, typical of the civil architecture of that time, is distinguished by its facades on the dock and on the courtyard, as well as by its roofs, which were officially protected by a registration order in 1980. These architectural elements reflect the know-how and styles in the region at this time.

The gate overlooking Rue des Clercs, also included in the protection, adds a heritage dimension to this building. The location of the house, near the Ulysse-Chevalier wharf, suggests a historical link with the river or commercial activities of Romans-sur-Isère, a city known for its industrial and artisanal past, especially in the manufacture of footwear and textiles.
