Origin and history
The house Castel is a medieval house located in Lagrasse, in the Aude department in the Occitanie region. Built in the 14th century, it is distinguished by its stone façade, typical of the civil architecture of this period. The openings, such as the low arches on the ground floor and the grooved windows in the middle of the first floor, reflect the construction techniques of the time.
The building was listed as historic monuments in 1948, recognizing its heritage value. The façade, partially modified by subsequent elevations, retains original elements such as window frames and skylights. Architectural details, such as false archatures in soft sandstone, bear witness to medieval artisanal know-how, although some decorative elements, such as capitals and columns, have now disappeared.
Castel House is located on Rue des Écoles in Lagrasse, a village marked by its medieval history. Its inscription among the historical monuments of the Aude makes it a representative example of the built heritage of this region, where civil architecture often borders religious or military buildings of the same period. The accuracy of its location remains approximate, with an additional address suggested on the boulevard de la Promenade.
