Origin and history
The house of Thouin is a medieval house located in Périgueux, in the Dordogne department, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. It was built in the 15th and 16th centuries, in the preserved area of the city centre, on the right bank of the Isle, south of Saint-Front Cathedral. This private property, located on 1 rue de l'Harmonie, is distinguished by its typical architecture of the period, including a square turret in corbellation and outdoor latrines.
The house of the Thouin was partially classified as historical monuments on 4 October 1946, with protection covering its facades and roofs. This ranking demonstrates its heritage importance in the urban landscape of Périgueux. The building, located under the cloister of Saint-Front, reflects the constructive techniques and lifestyle of the 15th and 16th centuries in Périgord.
Although private property, the Thouin House remains a remarkable example of medieval civil architecture in the region. Its inscription among historical monuments preserves this heritage, while stressing its role in the urban history of Périgueux. Available sources, such as Wikipedia and Monumentum, confirm its status and precise location, while providing details on its distinctive architectural features.
