Origin and history

The 16th-century house in Montferrand-du-Périgord, Dordogne (New Aquitaine), is a representative example of Renaissance civil architecture in Périgord. This building is distinguished by its wooden gallery overflowing on the ground floor, added after the initial construction, as well as its ground-lined windows, characteristic of bourgeois or affluent dwellings of the period. Its pointed gable and canal tile roof reinforce its distinctive regional style.

Classified as a Historical Monument by decree of 5 January 1948, this house illustrates the evolution of constructive techniques and aesthetic tastes in the 16th century. At this time, the Périgord, a rural and partly urbanised region, saw the development of houses combining residential and sometimes artisanal functions. Wooden galleries, like the one in this house, often served as a workspace or a place of sociability, reflecting a social organization in which domestic and professional life was closely linked.

Protected elements include the main structure (Cadastre C 87, 88), highlighting its heritage importance. Although the sources do not specify its exact use or original owners, its architecture suggests construction for a family of local notables or merchants. Approximate location, noted as "passible" (level 5/10), indicates that geographic details may be useful for further study.
