The façade and the cover (Box B 442): inscription by decree of 23 February 1951
Origin and history
The 18th century house in Puymirol, in the department of Lot-et-Garonne (Nouvelle-Aquitaine), is an example of civil architecture of this period. The building is distinguished by its flat pilasters framing the windows and the circular entrance door, as well as by a cornice decorated with checkered and Greek motifs. These stylistic elements reflect the classical and ornamental influences of the eighteenth century, a period marked by a refinement of architectural details in bourgeois or urban buildings.
Ranked among the Historical Monuments, this house saw its facade and its cover protected by a registration order dated 23 February 1951. This status reflects its heritage value, particularly for its state of conservation and its representative architectural features. The official address recorded at the Mérimée base is Main Street in Puymirol, although approximate GPS coordinates suggest a nearby location, rue des Arcades. However, the accuracy of this location is considered poor, which may complicate its exact identification.
At the time of its construction, Puymirol, like many localities in the region, was probably marked by a rural and artisanal economy, where houses of this size could belong to prominent locals, merchants or landowners. These buildings served as both a residence and a symbol of social status, often incorporating decorative elements to show some prosperity. The architecture of this house is thus part of a broader context of urban development and social differentiation in Aquitaine in the 18th century.
