Origin and history

The house located Place Saint-Médard in Thouars is a 15th century civil building. Classified as a Historical Monument by decree of 31 July 1930, it represents an example of medieval domestic architecture preserved in the region of New Aquitaine. Its location in the heart of Thouars, in the Deux-Sèvres department, underlines its importance in the city's historic urban fabric.

In the 15th century, Thouars and its region, then integrated into the Poitou, were marked by a mainly agricultural and artisanal economy. The houses of this period often served as a place of life, trade or craft for local bourgeois or merchant families.
