Origin and history

The residence of Valrose, located in Latresne en Gironde, is a remarkable example of neo-classical architecture in the Bordeaux region. Built at the end of the first quarter of the 19th century, it embodies the dominant aesthetic current of the period, marked by clean lines and a search for proportional harmony. Although its initial construction period is indicated as the eighteenth century in some sources, historical works attribute its realization to the period 1800-1825, thus confirming its anchoring in the next century.

Architect Arnaud Corcelles, a major figure in regional neo-classicism, is awarded as the designer of this residence. His intervention reflects the influence of the ancient models revisited through the prism of the Enlightenment, a style particularly popular with the rising bourgeoisie of the time. The house was partially protected by a decree of 12 August 1992, covering its facades, roofs, porches, vestibule and gate with its gates, thus highlighting the heritage value of these architectural elements.

Historically, Valrose is part of the urban and residential development of the Bordeaux periphery in the early 19th century. This period corresponds to a phase of economic expansion for the region, carried by the wine trade and the emergence of a local elite anxious to assert its status through prestigious residences. The location of the house, although noted as approximate (level 5/10 of precision), places the monument in an environment now integrated in the municipality of Latresne, in the department of Gironde.
