Origin and history

The house at 30 Vauban wharf in Besançon is a historic monument whose facade and roof, as well as the roadway and the adjacent wharf, were inscribed by order of 16 September 1933. This building is closely associated with the city's defensive history, notably through its connection with the Citadelle and the urban enclosure of Besançon. Protected elements reflect the architectural and strategic importance of the site in the bisontin landscape.

In 2019, a decree of 10 September extended protection to buried remains and structures associated with the urban enclosure, such as the remains of the counterscarp of the bastioned tower of Rivotte, portions of ramparts between the towers of Rivotte and Brégille, or the guard corps of the 18th and 19th centuries. These additions highlight the heritage value of the Besançon fortifications, of which this house is an integral part by its location and history.

The monument is located in the Doubs department, in the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region, and its exact address is attested both by the Merimée base and GPS coordinates. Although the accuracy of its location is considered poor (note of 5/10), its association with major defensive elements, such as the UNESCO World Heritage Citadelle, makes it a key witness to the urban and military evolution of Besançon.

No information is available about its opening to the public, its current vocation (housing, museum, etc.), or services such as room rental. Sources are limited to administrative data and architectural descriptions, without details of its contemporary use or accessibility.
